## Questions before you start

### What is the PTE Repeat Sentence task?

In PTE Academic you hear a recording of one sentence, 3 to 9 seconds long, and repeat it. The audio starts by itself, you cannot replay it, and you have 15 seconds to answer. Pearson tells test takers to start speaking as soon as the microphone opens and to say every word the speaker used, in the same order.

### What does Speakeroo check that the real task also looks at?

Pearson judges a Repeat Sentence response on content, oral fluency and pronunciation, and counts correct word sequences for content. Speakeroo’s Repeat practice judges accuracy against the words you heard and your pronunciation. It does not measure fluency, so use it for the remembering and the clear speaking, not for pace.

### Is the audio played once, like the real test?

The real task plays the audio once. Listen and Speak lets you play a clip up to twice before you record, and locks playback once recording starts. To practise the way the task works, play each clip only once and then record.

### Are these sentences from real PTE tests?

No. Every sentence was written for Speakeroo and recorded for this practice. Nothing here is copied from a real test, and Speakeroo is not affiliated with Pearson or PTE.

### How can I get better at repeating sentences?

Hold the sentence as phrases rather than single words, keep a steady pace, copy the speaker’s stress and intonation without changing your accent, and keep going if you stumble. If you are unsure of a word, say what you think you heard rather than stopping.
